What is a courier?
A courier is an individual or company who is paid to deliver somebody else’s goods for an agreed price. Most couriers do multi-drop work and deliver general parcels and packages within a restricted radius; however, due to the nature of the business a courier may be asked to carry more unusual goods which need referring to their insurance broker.
Is Van Insurance sufficient to cover me as a Courier in the UK?
If you are carrying someone else’s goods for a fee or to make money you need to be insured for the carriage of goods for hire and reward or courier use. You cannot use ordinary van insurance for this purpose.
Is Courier Insurance all I need to operate?
You will also need to make sure that you have the right cover for the goods inside your vehicle. This is called goods in transit insurance or GIT for short.
